Juniata River trip July 8, 2013

Juniata River "kayaking"

It was a beautiful day on the Blue Juniata! I paddled from Howe Part up to the ledge 1.25 mile upstream. I could not go any farther unless I got out and walked. No chance! This is the only ledge between Newport and Howe Park. The state has taken over Howe Park and it looks like that means no maintenance. The park seems to be deteriorating. I guess they plan to put in a boat commission ramp someday. You will need stickers on your boat. The water level was about 4.35 feet at Newport. The paddle took about 2.5 hours. The water temperature was about 78 degrees.
